Ready for day two

The new computer is set up.  I was able to download the upgrade to Windows 8.1, and that took a looooong time!  Maybe 2.5 hours.
Today I will try to load MS Office, and I'm going to try MS Money too.  Tomorrow maybe I'll bring my files over but, that will be a slow thing too.  I'm trying not to rush.

Distraction!

I don't even have a photo today, I'm distracted!  The new computer came yesterday, I'm distracted.  I haven't even done anything with it except turn it on.
Today maybe I'll try to change it from Windows 8 to 8.1 - I might even get that to work, I'm distracted.
I read the news this morning, local, State, National, International and the space junk from the sun even.  If that doesn't distract you, well, I don't know what to say, but I'm distracted.
Things should get back to a normal level of distraction soon, I may miss a day or two on here, but I'll be back.  I'm distracted.

For Wilbur:  I made a reply to your last comment, you'll like it.

You can click on any or all of these photos to enlarge.  I had a drinking buddy a long time ago who was a fisherman on a boat out of Portland, Maine.  He used to talk about how, in winter, when the nets were pulled from the ocean they became ice almost at once.  He told me how cold it is out there even with the cold weather gear available.  Frozen seafood indeed!

Why blue?

From Ocuvite commercial
Photo: www.vimeo.com
I have brown eyes, and in one eye I have macular degeneration.  The product Ocuvite is a combination of vitamins and lutein and another drug that is good for the eyes.  I buy over the counter lutein and save money.
What bothers me, this is silly, are the commercials on TV for the products Ocuvite and Restasis.  All commercials for those products feature people with blue eyes, bright blue eyes, eyes so blue they put the rest of us to shame.  To top it off the women featured in the Restasis commercials are amazons; tall, athletic, almost bigger than life.
What's up with that?  Shun them go brown.  Go brown today.  Follow this link to hear Rosemary Clooney sing "Beautiful Brown Eyes"

Looking ahead and something got done

Ain't no 'splaining to do here, you can click to make it larger.
First, something got done!  Janet Yellen's appointment was approved by the Senate as the new head of the Federal Reserve Bank.  She has been there for a long time and is very qualified.
Next, looking ahead.  The mid-term elections are this year, 2014, the will be a true test of peoples faith in the current administration.  Already tainted by the Obamacare snafu's, Democrats are looking at losing seats and the majority in the Senate is not large, at all.  Historically only 48 percent of voters turn out for mid-terms, and the party that holds back is?  The party who has the presidency, The Democrats.  Not looking good for the D's.
If we look further ahead since 1860 only two times were the Democrats returned to power.  Lyndon Johnson and Harry Truman, BUT, both of whom were "incumbents" because their predecessor died in office.  Not looking good for the D's.
  As a disclaimer; I am a registered D.

Just an opinion

The geezer hisself, age 8
Some background:  My parents were members of the Second Baptist Church.  The Second Baptist came in to being during the Civil War.  During that time northern churches that were "Southern Baptist" changed their name.  My parents were absolute believers in the Bible.  That belief led to their following of Proverbs 13:24 "......spare the rod, spoil the child.......".
As a child who would now be seen as Attention Deficit, Hyperactive with Impulsive control issues,  I gave my parents plenty of opportunity to follow their beliefs.  It didn't work!

Now on to important stuff, the wind chill in Minot North Dakota this morning, right now, is minus 51 degrees.  -51!!  That's cold!  Here in Levant we have a bit of freezing rain, with rising temps.  I will not be joining the group for coffee today.

Like it or not.

It's 6 degrees this morning at 3:30AM.  It's the first above zero morning in eleven days.  Of course Wilbur in North Dakota is still in well below zero weather, which is kind of normal there.  It's always been kind of normal here to.
A good hunk of North Dakota's population was in Frisco, Texas yesterday watching the North Dakota State University's football team win the National Championship for FCS colleges.  Nice.  It was really a good game and I'm sure the people in Fargo are happy too.
I'm thinking that some of those people came from the Moorhead, Minnesota area too since the two, Fargo and Moorhead are kind of "twin cities".  Doyle Schultz came for Moorhead into the United States Navy back in the late 1960's.  He was one of my "right hand men", a damned good worker and smart too.  Well, anyway, Go Bison!
