Senior coffee, black

Black coffee in a paper cup

When I go for coffee, each day at five AM,
the orders the same, as it's always been,
senior coffee black, it's not hard to understand;
no cream or sugar NO, I like mine kind of bland.

I don't want banana-licorice, or coconut toast,
just the kind of coffee like you used to roast,
no orange marmalade double cream parfait,
senior coffee black, it's real easy to say.

Senior coffee black - no, nothing on the side,
I don't want strawberry creme double scoop slide,
no espresso supreme chocolate surprise,
and thank you no, I don't want any fries.

I'm a plain coffee guy, that's just the way I am,
and I kind of think, this coffee stuffs a scam.
Why all the excitement with plain old black joe,
without all the extras, and I don't want it to go.

By this time I'm excited, or pissed off if you please,
I'd grab his skinny throat and give it a squeeze,
when he finally hands me - now get ready for this...
...a senior coffee black, ahhh! Sweet bliss!

Waiting for..

...my coffee, I'm barely hanging on,
if I don't do something soon, afraid I'll be gone,
a guy without his coffee is a sore sight indeed,
but the clock won't cooperate, I remain in need.

So, hanging on, by a mere and narrow thread,
all the while the sands of time are anchored in my head.
Now the light is dimmer, I'm barely holding on,
ahhh! The time is right, just when I thought I was gone.

Listen! There! Do you hear that?
Why, it's the coffee perking! Let's sit here and chat,
about the importance of coffee in the world,
or why without it, my mind was all whirled.

Nah! There must be something, important going on,
like why do skunks always dig, for grubs on a lawn,
or why the roads in Maine, can get you there from here,
or how much longer I can live, if I don't drink a beer.

Of course we could be useful, and do somthing good,
like pushing six colorful buttons, sounds like we should,
pick a place to start, hmmmm, let's see;
help me make up my mind, purple, pink oh gee!

Or, you could meet new people, there are quite a few,
just realize that they're not all like you,
variety is the spice of life, we've all heard that said;
so make some friends, not all the same, sometime before you're dead.

Enjoy the day!

Is it....

me or is it me, but I was just thinking,
sitting here staring, eyes not blinking;
where is my coffee, or where is it not,
after all I just made a fresh pot.

Ahhh! Here it is and it's hot,
freshly brewed, right from the pot;
it's a good thing people work in Brazil,
if they don't farm coffee, few places will.

I don't go to Starbucks, there's one around here,
why pay six bucks for coffee to drink it there?
If others can sell it for a less steeper price,
don't you think they could change, just to be nice?

On the home front, the desk is all done,
right here in the house, out of the hot sun,
the TV stand too, sits here all through.
Thanks Jeff for helping, couldn't do it without you.

Before I ramble a little too long,
how 'bout those buttons, you know the song,
purple, green, blue, yellow, red and blue,
sing along please, they need me and you.

Live and Let Live - best slogan there is,
what others do ain't none of your biz;
let them live their life, you live yours,
be thankful you're able to finish your chores.

The coffee is really good.
