One more time, at least!

click to enlarge
Photo: Robert Deutsch USA Today Sports
  I, of course, slept through all but the first inning.  And of course I'm excited by the win.  And, of course, I know the Red Sox beat the Cardinals in four straight games to win the World Series in 2004.  I also know the Red Sox won three games against the Cards in inter-league play this year.  The Sox have their number.
  As an aside the Red Sox third baseman Xander Bogaerts last night became the youngest player, 21, in Red Sox history to play in the post season since Babe Ruth - also 21 with an earlier birth date.

Losing some wonderful people

Logo for the All American Girls Professional Baseball League
Photo: www.wikipedia.org
  In the last couple of weeks two more "girls" have died.  The players from this league are all in their eighties or nineties now, and the ranks are thinning.
  The league started during World War Two and lasted about 10-14 years.  Many fans followed the league with great interest, but not enough of them, until the league disbanded.
  When I visited the Baseball Hall of Fame some years ago there was a whole section dedicated to the "girls", what a wonderful display of great ball players.
  The season will soon start again for professional baseball, but one league will be missing, again.

  Dorothy was a star player and is one of the people depicted in the movie "A League of Their Own".  She died a couple of weeks ago.
Sophie Kurys

  Sophie stole more bases in a year, 201, than any other ball player in any league including the MLB.  That stat is almost indicative of the women who played the game.  Sophie died earlier this week.

Picking a new team?

  You know, the Red Sox aren't going to do very well; at least that's what I think.  Maybe I should pick a new team.  How about one of these?
Well it won't be the New Orleans Pelicans, that may be the new name for the basketball team in that city.  Is that a good basketball name?  I didn't think so.
How 'bout them Biscuits?  This is baseball?  The Double-A team in Montgomery, Alabama is/are the Biscuits.  Complete with a pat of butter!
  The University of California Santa Cruz has teams that are call the Banana Slugs.  Probably they'd run too slow to be good at sports.  Besides there are a lot of salt shakers in the snack bar! Oh no!

  Well I can't decide, maybe it'll be the Red Sox anyway, they do have a new manager, and a whole bunch of new players (that's what makes me nervous).  We'll just wait and see; in the meantime I think I'll make a batch of biscuits.

They did it in ten!

From www.wiki logo.org
  I woke up a couple of minutes after the fact, but with an RBI single in the tenth inning the San Francisco Giants have won the 2012 World Series.  With a four game sweep of the Detroit Tigers no less.  There are a couple of us who are happy this morning, am I right Wilbur?
  I did sleep through much of the game, I saw it start, I woke up once during the sixth inning when the Giants took a brief lead, and as I said after the winning run.  I would loved to have been able to watch, but night games and the geezer don't go together; one of these things is not like the other.
  I know this doesn't mean a lot to some people but Wilbur has been my buddy since 1960 and that's a long time.  He has followed my blog(s) from the very start, which doesn't say a lot about how he spends his time I guess.  We are Bay Area fans by having absorbed it while stationed at NAS Alameda lo those many years ago.

No planning for this trip

Mount Battie and part of Camden Harbor - click to enlarge
  It's a Hollie day, I'll be taking her to Rockland via Belfast and Camden.  It will be a short trip; snack, Wal-mart, laminate at Staples, walk-around, lunch and home.  Oh, not always in that order but we'll keep it close to that.  I fully expect to enjoy the trip, and maybe, just maybe, there will be a new photo for tomorrow.
  On the baseball side of things Baltimore and Washington both lost.  So, Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants.  I couldn't care less about the American League series now, but I'll guess the same old, same old Yankees will win.  On the National League side I'll root for San Francisco but those two teams are fairly even so who knows the outcome, not me.

Baseball and some other stuff too

Whaleback on the Airline (Maine Route 9)
Aurora, Maine  - click to enlarge
  I was able to watch two baseball games yesterday.  What a treat!  After this series I doubt that there will be any day games and that will end my ability to see any of them.  My bedtime is 7:30PM.
  With an early bedtime you don't see night games and I have no idea what people are talking about when they watch some of the other "night time shows".  I don't know if that's my loss or gain.
  I was up at 12:30AM for the second day in a row, I did nap in the afternoon, probably the nap was too late in the day.  I do know that I need to find a system that works to keep me on a little later schedule than that!  2AM would be an ideal time to wake up, 1:30 would be even better - I'd settle for either one.

The Big Dogs are taking over

The Big Dog doesn't always win
Photo by Victoria Stillwell
While the Big Dogs are busy scrapping,
some are out of the running for first place;
and some got caught napping,
while some never joined in the race.

The Red Sox of Boston are gone,
near the bottom which they're trying to reach,
sometimes it doesn't take long,
to get to an irreversible breach.

The fight for the bottom is tough,
Toronto keeps reaching there too;
so the Sox might just have to get rough,
and give the Blue Jays the shoe.

It takes good luck and hard work to get there,
and bottoms a place that's deserved,
so the Jays have to quit splitting hair,
the Sox have last place reserved.

I'm only going to write this once

  When you're born and grow up in northern New England it usually comes with an inborn dislike of the New York Yankees, usually.  I'm a Red Sox fan, my father and mother were Red Sox fans too.  I remember going to my grandparents farm on Sunday afternoons and hearing my father and my uncles Jack and Armand arguing with the familys only Yankee fan my Uncle Dick.  Personally I believe that Uncle Dick claimed to be a Yankee fan so he could argue with people, if you ever met him you'd know why I say that.  I also have a friend, Harry, who I have coffee with a couple of days a week, he's a Yankee fan and he grew up in "The County" (Aroostook) so how that ever happened is an unexplained mystery.  I'm not wholly convinced that he isn't like Uncle Dick anyway.
  Now I want to talk about the Yankees, the team I dislike.  They have had a long list of players who are counted among the greatest of all time, Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Berra and on and on.  Currently they have the best, most complete ballplayer today, The Captain, Derek Jeter.  They also have names like Rodriguez and Grandeson to mention a few.  That team is in first place while the Red Sox linger in the netherworld of cellar, near cellar, cellar.
  It wasn't always this way they broke the mould in 2004 by winning the World Series, my 91 year old mother was "pleased as punch" that they won it for the first time in her life since she was 5.  There probably won't be any large celebrations this year for the Boston Red Sox, no trophy to show off, no ride in the 'duck boat parade', and no pennant to fly at Fenway Park.  But those other guys the much disliked Yankees could win it all.

The game..

..is tied, inning number eight,
someone has a chance to do something great,
the Red Sox have the bases loaded two times,
can't think of a word for #@#& that rhymes.

Oki, wasn't Oki-Doki, not this time around,
now Dan Bard, tries, to put them in the ground;
he's a good pitcher, but he's throwing them inside,
he struck the last batter out, now he has kept his pride.

It's the ninth inning coming up, the Sox are up to bat,
Big Youk, struck out,  Drew hit the ball, no good, drat!
Now the side has struck out, Oakland comes up next,
I hope there are no runs, but the Sox are hexed.

The first two hit grounders, both of them are out,
next come Davis, worry, he has a lot of clout,
Ramirez throws the ball, and Davis take a walk,
Pennington is up, Davis steals a base, fly ball now, this isn't idle talk.

It takes a lot of time, to do this play by play,
going to the tenth, I hope it won't last all day,
Cameron draw a walk, Patterson pinch runner,
a grounder, oh no, double play, hope this don't last all summer.

Dusty Brown at bat, let's see what he does,
he hit a single, Scutaro pop up, there ain't no buzz.
It's Oakland turn at bat, don't give up a run,
Crisp strikes out, but, Barton hit a single, to second on the run.

Now Suzuki gets an intentional walk,
pitcher change, Richardson in, let's talk,
two men on base, a dangerous situation,
will have to hope Richardson has some inspiration.

Rosales out on strikes, another pitching change,
Bowden in to pitch, I hope he keeps his range;
Kouzmanoff gets a hit, and it wasn't caught,
ten innings of baseball, alas all for naught.

It would have been and ideal time to win,
Yankees and Tampa lost, Sox would be in the race again.
But, that's the way it goes, through wins and losses,
too bad that's not the way that people choose their bosses.

Have a good day.

Let's keep....

...it short and sweet, I don't have much to say,
I had a lousy night, hope for a better day;
watched most of the Red Sox game, outs one by one,
two for the Sox, one for Oakland, the Red Sox won!

Enjoy

I could...

...swear I heard, they were ahead by nine runs,
but Texas beat them, seven two, sons of a guns.
So I learn that what I hear while I'm asleep,
just plain isn't true, it's nothing I should keep.

With a list of injured players, longer than my arm,
manned with players good or bad, brought in from the farm,
the Red Sox have managed to stay in food stead,
and they are far from ready, to put this thing to bed.

In the meantime there are two things, worth watching on TV,
the Tour de France, is going strong, and it interests me,
or the British Open, at St. Andrews this year,
if you're watching that, there are reasons to cheer.

But, today's a Hollie Day, all morning long,
she'll be the one to put me back where I belong.
We have much to talk about, it'll be a busy time,
with her projects in her mind, and me left in mine.

I'll get a walk in before all that, something to look to,
as a form of exercised, with meditation in there too;
just a plain and simple walk, couple of miles or more,
then a cup of coffee, hot and black and pure.

Before all that can take place, there is coffee here,
what a welcome time it is, there's a reason to cheer;
and a little oatmeal, it'll start the day off right,
I should be walking, when it starts getting light.

Keep it simple.

I think...

...there should be a rule,
don't use pitchers that act like a fool,
they'll give up two homers and lose the game,
and all the while think their adding fame.

I shouldn't have turned on the blasted TV,
afterall, there's really not much to see,
but, I witnessed the home runs, then I got mad,
the Red Sox lose, when it was a win they had.

So much for that stuff, leave it alone,
let me tell of yesterday, when I did roam;
over in Brewer on Dirigo Drive,
when some of the wildlife, was really alive.

I saw my friend yesterday, old stinky,

don't know if it’s a boy or girl, I'm not that kinky,
before it could pay my the debt it may think I owed,
I quickly crossed to the other side of the road.

I saw no foxes or even one deer,
maybe they were running in fear,
not of me, but that stinky guy,
no stores were open, no protection to buy.

It was a wonderful walk, but humid and hot,
glad it was early, four-fifteen, glad a lot,
it was peaceful and quiet, no one around,
if it weren't for the interstate, not even a sound.

So today I'll repeat my usual route,
still trying to see if walking bears fruit;
but first there's a chore I need to get done,
push those buttons and hope I not the only one.

And treat other people nice and show respect,
not like some tiny, bothersome speck;
treat them the way you'd like for yourself,
don't keep brotherhood up high on a shelf.

Smile!

It's Sunday...

....all over again,
seven days, that's how long it's been,
since the last one, my how time flys;
seven nights, seven days with blue skys.

The part of blue skys is a downright lie,
we had rain one day, can't let that go by;
and today has promise to bring us more,
or maybe it's sunny, Weather.com's not sure.

The Red Sox don't play until late,
a national broadcast is their fate;
same as yesterday, on network TV,
so I won't see them play, it has to be.

Only one game out, in the race for first,
soon the Yankees will be the worst, :),
and the Red Sox will be at the top of the pile,
by August they'll be ahead by a mile.

So I'll spend the first part of my day,
pushing buttons - that's making hay;
six little tabs, all across the top,
I'll do them all, I just can't stop.

Happy Fathers Day!

How about...

...Jon Lester?  Can he pitch, or what?
The Toronto Blue Jays, must wonder that.
The Jays had two hits in the entire game,
and Lester struck out eleven, is he Hall of Fame?

Maybe, maybe not but last night he was,
and the Red Sox are ready for a one day pause.
So...maybe this is the beginning of a turn around,
they do that when I'm ready to put them in the ground.

Not much walking for me today,
knee's a little tender, so that's okay.
The weather seems to be not bad but not fine,
I'll take that as hope that it's a good sign.

I had to stop and put some coffee on,
got up late today, it seems half gone.
It's still early but it throws me a bit,
but sleeps not bad, I'll take it.

When I finish this, I know what to do,
go and push some buttons, starting with the blue,
I think it bears repeating, a reminder if you will,
no matter how hard we try, things aren't better still.

Please take time today to try something new,
it doesn't have to be a lot, anything will do.
It could be the way you eat, try a different mix,
or you could take a walk, pick up varied sticks.

Enjoy! ;)

A regular...

...pitchers duel, that's what it was,  (sarcasm intended)
really no, that's a reason not a cause;
the game was long and ugly, over in four hours,
thirteen to twelve, the taste of it sours.

Thirty-four hits, that's the total of....
...this game - that ought to be against the law...
of averages anyway.  The pitcher threw,
too many, so the runs add up to more than just a few.

I've got to take a walk, to clear my aching brain,
and I just watched the end, that helped relieve the pain.
There can't be an excuse for ugly games like this,
but FrancoMa will come up with one, he'll do his best.

I just can't forget it, walk and a meeting too,
and if I were a Toronto fan, I don't know what I'd do,
I need to walk to get away from this ugly scene,
and the meetings help too, if you know what I mean.

So, let's move on to more pleasant things,
like pushing pretty buttons, you know what that brings,
hope, food and medicine are amoung the gifts,
you can give away today, yes, you! You deserve the best.

And Let us not forget to Live and Let Live,
it's a simple motto that has a lot to give;
what other people should not cause a frown,
if it's lawful business, you mind your own!

Enjoy;)

Patriots Day in Boston

Monday in Maine, and one other state,
it was a holiday, it's their common trait,
when the Red Sox stepped into the fray;
helping the Rays celebrate - Patriots day.

A pop up fly I watched unfurl
the outfielder worked the play like second grade girl
it was inviting for the Rays batter appeal,
because no one was working in the outfield.

The game had almost just begun,
the Rays scored run after run,
six runs at the end of the third inning,
I have a feeling they’re just beginning.

It’s embarrassing watching this team,
or, maybe I’m just having a really bad dream
Francona could hide in his office kind of like a shield,
he doesn't seem to care what goes on in the field.

Well, I'll be a son of a gun,
Hermida just hit a home run,
it must be some kind of mistake,
who knows what punishment he'll take?

There's a NESN promo, that's right off the wall,
they show David Ortiz, hitting a ball,
I don't know how they fabricate that,
but I guess when you work with the Sox, it must be old hat.

Now, at the end, the game is done,
Rays 8 Sox 2 - series four to none;
in the ninth it was Ortiz, Beltre and Drew,
I guess I'll stand and give a loud BOOO!

Cheer on your team.

Baseball...

...ain't for sissies, if you're a Red Sox fan,
because what they're doing can't be in the plan,
but if they had a hitting coach that knew what to do,
maybe they could hit the ball, at least a time or two.

If pitchers could pitch the way the should,
and strike out batters, if only they could;
maybe they could win a game,
the present product is terribly lame!

Enough about those Beantown clowns,
but it stresses me out watching their ups and downs;
knowing there's nothing that I can do,
and knowing that you can't do too.

It's kind of chilly outdoors and in,
our thermostat has taken a whim,
to not perform it's single task,
a little heat is all I ask.

And so life goes on, and rightfully so,
batters can't bat, and pitchers can't throw;
and now I'm sitting in a chilly room,
but I know things will get better soon.

So, I guess, while in that frame of mind,
I'll think less of me and do something kind,
push a few buttons, and look what it's for;
a few short seconds - can mend a war.

There's a recommended approach to take,
when trying to overcome lifes rough wake;
don't try to do stuff in a backwards fashion,
First Things First - an importand lesson.

Smile! - we didn't bet money on that team!

This is it!....

...The first sign of spring, it's "truck day",
the trucks are loaded up at Fenway,
and start the trip south, spring training is here,
soon we'll have baseball, I'll grin ear to ear.

At long last maybe, an end is in sight,
to a dreay winter, and it's faded light,
the sun will get warmer, day after day,
it won't be long now - the farmers will make hay.

Down in the Mid-Atlantic states they scream,
"what's the matter with you, having a dream?",
I hope that spring get there too, down in Virginia,
so you can rejoice with all that's in ya!

But, meanwhile, back at the ranch, on with the show,
Hollie will be waiting, she'll be ready to go,
we were going to do a Sunday Valentines thing,
she just can't wait, so Friday's the new fling.

She was on the phone, with mom (bless her heart),
going through her littany part after part,
she always has the grandest of plans,
she'll change her mind, before daylight lands.

So there'll be no early walking or a meeting to go to,
as Ed Sullivan would say "on with the shoe"   (his pronounciation of show)
she'll be fired up, shot from a gun,
"so how you been, dad" get ready to run!

But, before all starts, there are things we must do,
pushing some buttons, all or one or two,
http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/, go there today,
push the buttons for each place that has a tab, hooray!

Easy Does It, is a saying, it's a way to get things done,
it doesn't mean not to do things, it means to get it done,
but done in a fashion with an easier pace,
Easy Does It, but do it, you don't have to race.

Coffee time!

Well...

...it's over! What a insult to my psyche, and my troubled mind,
the Yankees win the series, how do I leave this damage behind?
I will probably wonder if the outcome would be the same,
maybe different players, or some change in the game?

I'm going to leave that all behind me now, I'll be okay I know,
after all the Celtics have won five games in a row.
Baseball is all over, except for trades, rumors and stories;
there will be next season, for the Red Sox and their glories.

There is much more to life than these trivial pursuits,
like taking good care of myself, eat my veggies and my fruits;
take a little walking too - well after medical clearance;
go to meeting, paint some too, add to my experience.

I have pushed that purple button, I do it every day,
all those critters sheltered, have to eat, there is no other way;
and there are hungry people, right here on our streets,
please help and find some funds to help them get some eats.

And welcome a new comer if you meet one today,
tell him your name, and make him comfortable some way;
some times there aren't any, and some times quite a few,
smile, shake hands and tell him "this chair is just for you"!

The World Series...

The Phillies didn't field the ball, they ran away and hid,
it was a complete failure, to stop the Yankees bid;
the Phillies were an example of one huge mistake,
now it sure doesn't look like any Philly cake.

I think they could have won this ballgame too,
but not they way they played, it shows what not to do.
You can bless your lucky stars, that I've vowed not to cuss,
but I won't let that stop me, from making a big fuss.

The was lousy management, and poor positioning,
and, of course, a thousand bats that never took a swing;
it was no wonder that the Yankees prevailed,
every time one came up to bat, away the ball sailed.

The Phillies were out played, and out managed too,
if the newspapers are full of blame, and there will be a few;
there plenty of that blame, to go all around,
it's just too bad when the Phillies bat, the ball don't leave the ground.

Well, anyways, have a happy Monday,
it can't be much worse than a Philly fans Sunday;
and I'm go to stop, right here and now;
just because they lost a game, it's no reason to have a cow!
