The Invasion of Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Times Feb 25 1942

72 years ago today, just two months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, sighting of unidentified "aircraft" stunned residents of Los Angeles, Long Beach and the general area.
Fearing an attack by the Japanese anti-aircraft batteries opened fire, tracers lit up the sky aided by search lights.  Nothing was shot down.
It is now believed that a weather balloon could have been sighted and mistaken for a plane, and some believe that it was a UFO (because the photo had been enhanced).
